Great Memphis College Football and Other Sports

College sports in Memphis are presently only being played by the University of Memphis. The University of Memphis plays all of their sports at the Division 1 level of the NCAA, so college sports in Memphis are being played at the highest level possible giving fans pro quality teams to follow and root for. University of Memphis organizations play under the name of the Tigers and give fans a lot to root for.

University Baseball

The baseball team at the University of Memphis, the Memphis Tigers, currently plays all of their home games at FedEx Park. FedEx Park was first opened in 2010 and holds just over 2000 visitors. The Memphis Tigers commenced playing baseball in 1915. The Tigers won the 1500th game in school history in the 2011 season. The University of Memphis baseball team has won 4 conference championships. They have also made five postseason appearances, but have not been able to go to the College World Series. University of Memphis has developed a solid baseball program and the new stadium should considerably help in inducting new players and fans.

University Basketball

The basketball team at the University of Memphis is the most renowned of all of the sports programs at the school. The Memphis Tigers currently play all of their home games at the FedEx Forum, which holds just over 18000 people. The U of Memphis played their first basketball game in 1920 and have won over 1400 games since that time. The Tigers have won a dozen Conference championships, and have made 23 trips to the NCAA tournament. The Tigers have made the National Championship game two times. The University of Memphis has had several players advance to the NBA after their college career including Penny Hardaway, Derrick Rose anf Tyreke Evans.

University Football

The Memphis Tigers play all of their home games at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, which holds just over sixty two thousand fans. Memphis college football started in 1912 and saw over 400 victories from the U of Memphis. U of M has won 6 Conference championships, and they have also made 6 appearances in the postseason bowls. The University of Minnesota Tigers would go on to win 3 of their six bowl games. While the U of Memphis isn't known for having a great football program, they are speedily building a solid team for the Tigers. Five of their six of their bowl appearances have come after the 2003 season. If U of M continues to build on their success, then Memphis college football will be better than previously. Many players have had successful careers in the NFL like DeAngelo Williams, Troy Brown and Issac Bruce.

University Hockey

U of Memphis will play its first hockey game starting in the 2011-2012 season. It can be difficult for Universities from the south to build solid hockey programs due to the hot weather. If the hockey program can achieve the same success as the other sports, then Memphis college hockey will be some of the finest in the United States. Since the University of Memphis has a great history in athletics, Memphis college hockey will have an excellent chance to achieve success.
