The Truth About Black Bear Hunting

By Linda Ruiz

Hunting has always been a part of the human survival ever since the early years. Even before man has realized the uses of fire in relation to cooking, he has chased after wild animals and ate them raw. Way before he decided to grow animals near his dwelling, man changed residences every now and then in the pursuit of food. Hunting has indeed played a very important role in the growth of human race.

Hunting is done primarily for survival. It is the law of nature, that one has to eat and feed upon others, or allow themselves to be eaten and preyed upon by much larger species. Today, it is also done to keep the balance among the natural order of things. Black Bear hunting Canada is now done to maintain the equilibrium.

There are many types of bears in the world, found in separate distinct locations. The brown one, for starters, is a very large specie distributed all throughout the Northern hemisphere. Its tracks actually dig deeper than that of the black one. It has very many regional variations, such as the grizzly, the Eurasian, Amur, and so many others.

Aside from the brown type, the black one is more common. They are found all over the Northern hemisphere. It is abundant in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This type of bear is known to raid agricultural fields to satisfy its love for crops, particularly oats.

They are hunted because of the many things they can give to people. For starters, their fur is a must have for every fashion addict. The pelt of the black bear is often used to adorn caps and coats, as a way to still be in the trend even when it is snowing outside.

Bear meat is also gathered for culinary purposes. The best hunters back then had more than enough meat to eat. They usually baked it or have it boiled in a delicious soup or stew, but they never eat it raw. Trichinella infection in the body of such animal calls for it to be cooked thoroughly as it is considered potentially lethal for humans.

Bear fat also has significant uses. They are sometimes used as cooking oil, the way American settlers and Native Americans used to do back in the older times. The fat is also used as lamp fuel, as 45 grams of the said stuff can light a lamp for about an hour. Some tribes even use it as a form of medicine.

Apart from the fat, the gall bladder of bears is also used for healing reasons. Traditional Chinese medicine is never without a supply of bear bile in their apothecaries. Bile can be used fresh, or dried up in crystallized form. It is believed to be a very effective way to cure illnesses such as eye problems, rheumatism, and even for gall stones.

Hunting has its positive effects, even if more people are standing up against it. It is actually good for the planet, as it restores the prey population by curbing the number of predators. It is also used in mercy killing, to stop starvation and disease that may set out to kill off more numbers.
